Santorini or Thira is one of the top destinations in Greece and one of the most romantic destinations in the world.
Located in Cyclades Islands in the Aegean Sea, Santorini has the most unique geographical characteristics of any other island. Santorini is famous for the impressive Caldera, the Volcano and the romantic sunset.
The villages, the famous beaches and the volcano...
The villages Fira, Firostefani, Imerovigli and Oia had been constructed on the edge of the caldera with breathtaking view to the sea. Pyrgos, Megalochori and Emporio are traditional villages with beautiful architecture white Cycladic houses, small alleys and strong Aegean tradition.
Santorini’s beaches are on the east and the southeast side of the island.Perissa, Perivolos and Agios Georgios are essentially one very long beach they are composed of dark volcanic sand. Kamari beach is right next to Perissa, with the enormous rock called Mesa Vouno between them. Red beach has red pebbly sand and the backdrop is stunning.
The volcano, Nea Kameni, stands in the middle of the caldera. Tourists can visit the volcano by taking one of the daily cruises. Walk upon the solid black lava sides of the steaming volcano and explore the whole area which is quite impressive.Behind the Nea Kameni is the Palaia Kameni the oldest volcano. Palia Kameni especially is a pole of attraction for tourists for its healing hot springs. The yellow waters there contain a large amount of sulfur and are characterized for their therapeutic purposes.
The Ancient Thera...
The only town on the island in the ancient times, Thera, was founded by Dorian colonists at Méssa Vounó, a natural fortress area of the inland.Ancient Thera has also a Museum. This museum is quite spectacular even from the outside. It hosts a rich collection of finds from the excavations in the sites of Akrotiri and other Cyclades islands.The Town of Akrotiri is one of the most important ancient sites in Greece. It is located on the southern side of the island and the town was found almost intact, covered with layers of ashes. Scientists believe that this town was destroyed by the volcanic eruption of Santorini in about 1,650 BC.
The Archaeological Museum of Firá offers a clear and scientific insight to the human presence on the island, from the Dorian colonization at the dawn of history to late Roman times.The Naval Museum in Oia highlights the contribution of Santorini to the glorious history of the Greek Navy.
Wines and flavours...
Wine production is high quality due to the volcanic elements of the island, very famous is the Santo Winery with the amazing caldera view. Some of the local and famous varieties are Vinsanto, Nychteri and Mezzo.
Santorini is also famous for a few things such as yellow split peas- fava and tomatoes.When you visit Santorini you must taste tomato rissoles- tomatokeftedes is tomatoes mixed with a few herbs.And of course fava is probably the most famous dish, it uses yellow split peas.
about Perissa...
Perissa has the famous black beach of Santorini situated 15km southeast of Fira extending for 7km.
The beach features crystalline waters and various beach facilities, is organized with umbrellas and sun beds.
It has a big variety of hotels, restaurants, bars and cafes, also in Perissa you can find diving center, super markets, bakeries, tourist shops and tourist agencies.
Perissa has a small path, close to our facilities, crosses the mountain and leads to the ruins of Ancient Thera.
From Perissa to Fira, the capital of Santorini, is 15km and from Perissa to Oia, to watch the famous romantic sunset, is 28km.
The airport is 14km and the port 10km.
